My wife broke her shoulder 7 weeks ago and after her last visit to the doc on Thursday he announced she had some good solid bone there again. She started physical therapy to get back the motion in the joint and start to build the muscle again. We did about 14 miles today just nice and easy but hey 14 miles after breaking her shoulder we will call that a success. The shoulder started to be a bit painful after about 12 miles but she said it wasn't bad at all just a little nudge as she called. She never really complained during this whole thing just got a bit aggravated at not being able to do a lot but she has a ways to go to get that motion back but she was really happy to be able to ride again.

That's awesome. My wife has bilateral hip prosthesis and rides a recumbent tadpole trike. She did 22 miles Saturday and is training for a 50 K ride in September. I have no doubt that she will make it as I have no doubt that your wife will improve as well. Tell her to keep up the good work.

How'd she break her shoulder?

I identify with anybody coming back from an injury. In my case, the mental issues have been far worse than the physical injuries. Just getting back on the bike and riding 14 miles is great.

She was jogging and tripped on a section of sidewalk that was sticking up about an inch. Fortunately she didn't do any damage to the rotator cuff and the break was clean just below the ball part of the humerus. She has been amazing during this, she only wore a sling for about 2 weeks and not all the time and as soon as the doc said it was ok she started small movements the wouldn't aggravate the break. Her sister told me "Sheila was always the tough one of the three sisters" I just thank God she didn't suffer anything worse because it really could have resulted in a head injury if she would have hit her head on the concrete. Funny thing is the city came by and ground that section of sidewalk and several more since that happened.

Good to hear! At this point, I am happy to hear about good recoveries!

It sure is frustrating to come back from an injury and learn -really fast- that it ain't as easy as it was before and you've got some work ahead of you
It's also an unmitigated joy and thrill to get back in the saddle.

Tell the wife to take it steady for a while. The break may be completely healed bu there will be associated pain for a while.

And tell her to stop running. That game is silly and can hurt (As she found out)
