It's weird thinking of Panama City as bear habitat. But I guess it's like Myrtle Beach, which has a high number of bears also.

I'm glad the bears where I live are well-behaved. I usually just have to yell once or twice before they run off into the forest. Sometimes, if they see me first and get off the road they will run through the trees parallel to me for half a minute or so. I think they are just trying to identify what I am. I suppose I have the hunters to thank for their fear of humans.

Media reports indicate that the bear thought the cyclist was a deer... no word if the bear was wearing a helmet...
