Mountain - Plains - Triple Bypass 2011

I couldn't make it this year but wonder how it was. Did anyone do the ride this year? Anyone do the double?

Did the double triple bypass. Pretty intense.

Despite the forecast, the weather held up pretty well. I only rode on Saturday, and there was less rain and wind than the last two years, but cooler, although not too cool.

I only rode the Saturday portion (first-timer here). It was great! A little bit of rain at the end of the ride, then a major rain pounding once I was at the finish and trying to get some food. I heard that Sunday was much more of a difficult weather day. A friend of a friend had to stop several times on Sunday's ride due to the weather. The cops in Avon weren't great about directing cyclists. I took a wrong turn at one point because they weren't motioning to me, then they yelled at me to come back & told me which way to go. A few miles later I saw the same thing happen to some other folks ahead of me. Only other complaint is that the finish was pretty chaotic. Had to dodge cars & people, and with the rain starting to come down I just wasn't feeling real safe about that. Great rest stops (at least when I was there). Lots of food & drink choices! I did the Elephant Rock Century this year too and the rest stops got pretty old after a while with the same old same old.

I rode Sun. TBP #5 for me.
We left Avon as the rain was ending.
Had beautiful weather over Vail and over Loveland.
Just as we were leaving the lunch stop it started to rain.
We got blasted all the way to GeorgeTown.
Coming down the GT hill, the storm was directly over us.
The lightening and thunder were amazing.
As we made the turn into the train station, the wind and rain
made it almost impossible to see. The volunteers that were
directing us could not be heard and barely seen.
We stopped in GT and waited out the rest of the storm.
We were soaked and cold.
At Idaho Spgs. the sun came out and it was clear to the south.
As we pulled into Echo Lake it started again.
We waited out this storm on the porch of the lodge.
The descent to Bergen Pk. was freezing cold.
It was also tricky w/all the wash outs along the road,
especially on the lower part.
We had time to get a bite to eat and it started again.
Just as I got my bike loaded it was pouring down and the
lightening was all around.
It was my most epic TBP, but never more satisfying to
pull into the finish.

I noticed this, too. In the past couple of years, the traffic control at the roundabouts was excellent. This time, I felt much less safe.
