Hello,

I am in search of a bike and could use some assistance. What I am looking to do with the bike is city-ride, jumping curbs and such, but also taking it to the beach (not the deep, dry sand), riding by the water. The surface there is pretty dense, so I don't think I need super fat tires of beach cruisers; maybe not even those of a mountain bike.

I won't be doing any trail riding, nor am I planning on putting the bike through rigorous rides. All I need is some comfortable ride through city streets, and ability to ride on gravel and packed sand. I'm guessing I do not need a suspension, but disc brakes might be a good idea, since I'm planning on riding near the water.

Looking to spend around $500, open to new or used. Please offer your thoughts.

sounds like you are looking for something that won't be use too much for fitness but mostly for recreational so i would look into something along the lines of the Trek 7300 Hybrid. It's more of a comfort bike. but not so much that of a Cruiser like bike. i think it would be a good pick for you. right around the 500 range as well.
