Well I've been quietly standing on the sidelines so I figured I'd say hello. "HELLO!"

So far the forum has given me quite an education on terminology that has changed in the last couple decades. I'm 47 and just recently started riding again on my 18 year old MTB. It's an old Mongoose that has a huge steely frame and weighs darn near as much as I do, but it's getting me around.... for now, and not in style. :o

I'm in the market for something new, something that fits me better, something that doesn't moan and groan when I put my 248lb body into it.

So I'm off to read more and figure out what might work better for me. It's time.

Glad to meet you!
Mike

Hi Mike,

What is your budget?

I'd like to stay under $1000

Been looking for about a month and have ridden a few bikes. It seems like the longer wheelbase bikes feel better and handle well enough for anything I'm going to take on. Tried a Fuji 2.0 that felt pretty good. The specs on the Surly Cross Check seem decent, but I'd like something a little lighter.

Hi Mike, I am just getting ready to get into biking too (Don't even have one yet,) probably going to buy one I go look at Saturday morning. It's a Specialized Terez 56cm. with a few extras on it. Anyway, your thread really caught my eye, because I am from St. Peters, Mo. However now I'm down near Raleigh, NC. (East of it)
enjoy riding, I hope to be posting allot on here, probably mostly in the 50+ forum, I'm 54.
