Professional Cycling For the Fans - What are the sponsor companies of teams in the TdF sell?

Asked this last year and will ask it again - anyone know what the bike team sponsors sell? (WTF does QuickStep make?)

I think wikipedia used to address what a lot of the main sponsors sold. I believe Quick Step sold laminate flooring. a lot of telecom and energy sponsors out there as well.

On a serious note, even post the Lance era the "big" sponsors are scared of the drugs risk.

The organisation I work for is global (financial) we considered cycling for about a milisecond before settling on a football (soccer-ball :)) team sponsorship.

Perhaps big american companies but that probably has more to do with the limited coverage the sport receives in the states "post Lance". There are some very big european companies in the current sponsor list. Sky, Saxobank, HTC, Movistar etc are all very large organisations.

my gf brought me some Haribo candy back from her trip to s. france this year :) tasty! not a team sponsor but a big race sponsor every year.

It's not about knowing what they sell, it's brand recognition.

When you are thinking about buying say a television, you are more likely to walk into a store you've heard of and buy a brand you've heard of.
The goal isn't to get you to remember "Samsung = Televisions" It's more "Samsung..hmm, they sponsor XYZ sporting event/team/race car/etc, they must be doing well in order to sponsor stuff, their product must be good."

And to answer the US Postal question. That was at the time FedEx, UPS, and DHL were REALLY banging it out for US domestic courier dominance. US Postal was sponsoring one of the biggest American draws of the time in Lance Armstrong. Even though most of the eyeballs were in Europe, it seemed to work. You don't see near the push from FedEx/UPS as you used to and DHL left the US Domestic market completely.

Sky for the coverage. Moviestar isn't Vodaphone. Saxo is a euro niche bank. Rabo is the largest company there. I work for a bigger EU co and we didnt want the risk of -ve exposure. We spend more than twice as much as Rabo on sports sponsorship.

A postal truck and I stopped at a 4-way stop the other day at the same time. I was on my bike. He let me go first and I chalked it up to an assumption that every postman must be a huge cycling fan, hence their sponsorship.

I figured this would elicit some humorous retorts. Since Pro tour teams budgets are pretty high they are generally large regional and international companies with deep pockets. Primary sponsors would probably need to contribute around 5-8 million dollars a year.
