Ok.....I know I need a picture....will add tonight, but this is driving me crazy,

I was looking at my wife's Electra cruiser, and noted that the head tube has a crack, kind of y shaped and about an inch and a half long.

She doesn't ride the bike much (or almost never but I'm trying to change that) so i have some time.

Is there any possibility of welding? I know I would need to go to an aluminum specialist.

Other options...primarily focused on avoiding big failure.... i.e carbon/epoxy wrap?

I am looking for a frame ony but not having much luck

thank

pics to come

don't they have a warranty? I would think those frames cost them approximately $5 including shipping

bought it used a couple of years ago.... so no warranty...good idea though. I don't think it the crack when I bought it, but can't be 100% sure. The bike has not had 50 miles on it in 2 years. It hangs on one of the rubbermaid bike hook thinks...so I am at a loss as to how it cracked...unless my son borrowed it and jumped it a bit :)

Hard to be conclusive without pics, but cracks in aluminum are usually a pretty good reason to be afraid. I personally would be wary of riding an aluminum frame with any visible cracks anywhere.

your only hope is that it isn't a crack. If it really is cracked, it's time to find a recyclers.

You can't fix a cracked headtube with a weld. The piece must be replaced.
