it was my understanding that running tubular in cx lets you reduce pressure for conditions and lessens the risk of pinch flat.

Being tubular they absorb shock and the rims being tubular in cross section are strong and light. Also there is no such thing as a pinch flat with tubulars because the inner tube is stitched inside the outer tire and so never comes in contact with the rim.

I run a Tufo clincher on my front. I have been racing w/ it at about 40 psi. No problems and handles the soft conditions great.
Maybe it's just in my head, but it does feel lighter than my speedmax and a tube. Also seems a bit faster.
I sure a true tubular is even lighter.

FWIW - from the Tufo site:
28 mm Tufo Prestige tubular = 290 grams
28 mm Tufo Prestige tubular clincher = 365 grams
It is possible to ride on a flat tub while virtually impossible on a flat clincher. Gets you to the service area for a new wheel.
Rolled my clincher tubular on the front this past weekend at 40 PSI taking a hard 90 degree down hill turn. Was doing OK until then...
