As a kid, sometimes. Nowadays, most of the time. Both of my grandfathers and my father-in-law are clean-shaven, though, and that's the way I prefer it.

Only when we went camping or he was otherwise not working. He was a dentist so he could pretty much set his own schedule (as long as he planned ahead).

I do rmember one time he was not working for a week and was driving a panel truck and some tool in a cadie ran into him. They exchanged licens info. Really messed up the cadie, broke the cover on a turn light on the truck. The tool then called the police and reported a hit and run. He figured that the police would not believe a guy with a scruffy beard.

Did he get a surprise, and I don't thing dad even had to mention that it was sort of absurd for him to have the other guy's DL number if it was a hit and run. The cops were not amused.

my dad was a clean cut 50s rat pack type - that said, when he retired he grew a beard for a week or two, then got fed up with the itching and shaved it. But while it lasted, I was surprised at how good it looked - all snow white and kinda made him look like E Hemingway...

My dad was clean shaven the entire time he worked (except for those 3 weeks in the 1960s when he simultaneously contracted pneumonia and chicken pox), but the day he retired he threw out all his razors (and suits, and ties) and he's been sporting a full beard ever since.

No, but I'm a dad and have had a beard (beard is older than the daughter - it's going on 1.5 years in it's current iteration and she's 5 months). Does that count?

Mine was as well. He tried a beard once and was disappointed that it was red.

I tried a goatee about ten years ago. It had some grey spots à la Woldman Jack. One of the local sysadmins started to call me "The Evil One" about that time. I don't think the emails from satan@hell.org helped my case.

My dad had a full beard until he hit his 50 and it turned Santa Claus white. Then he trimmed it to a goatee. I grow a hockey beard every year so my daughter sees me both ways.

To be fair, I just liked the video. I have never seen my father with anything other than a bit of scruff if he did not shave over the weekend. No mustache, beard, goatee, nothing.

I have tried both beard and mustache and failed miserably, so at least I am consistent and good at something.

Every time I shave my beard off, I go mustachioed for the day simply because men with mustaches freak my wife out (she thinks they look like child molestors/secual predators). At this point, it's a pretty tired joke, but still fun (especially when she doesn't know the beard is coming off until I walk out of the bathroom cleanshaven).

My dad was a college professor in the late 70s and early 80s. I think it was a federal requirement to have a big "professorial" beard. He rounded out the stereotype by smoking a pipe and wearing turtleneck shirts and tweed sport coats with suede elbow patches.
When his beard started going salt/pepper grey he went to just a handlebar 'stache. Now that all his facial hair is snowy white he's decided on a Van ****.

Now that I washed the video, I'm so glad my dad has a beard.
