In cycling culture I thought there must be some pithy name for the greasy chain marks that are on my legs after a ride?

The toothy imprint where you let your right leg rest against the chainwheel is a "sharkbite". :)

Hmm, rookie marks. Maybe I should work on my form. I have been riding for well over 10 years and occasionally notice this mark. Didn't know I was pedaling so amateurishly.

Rookie marks? In my book that is when the chainring leaves a permanent scar from the removal of tissue from the leg......................don't ask...

I've hear roadies call them cat 5 tattoos. It's funny, I guess, that is unless as you deride another cyclist you don't realize that you have one too :)

Yeah, someone called it a first-timer's bite on my leg, to which I thought, "Son, I've been riding longer than you've been alive..."

Or a chain ring tattoo. And some people just actual tattoos of them.

Me, I have permanent scars of one particularly bad one. No need for any ink there!
