I was wondering if there is a Community Bike Shop in the KC Area? I have a Schwinn cross bike I want to give to a friend. But it needs a jockey wheel on the rear derailleur and a seat and post. I haven't come up with the parts but I thought I might be able to get some assistance from a Community shop. Blues frog

This is quite dated, but there is a place called Waldo Bikes that is very good. It's at 75th just west of Wornall. The owner is somewhat of a curmudgeon, but honest and knowledgeable.

I'm talking about a coop where folks can buy and fix bikes. All for little or nothing in $$. You can donate money but preferably time and expertise. NOT a commercial LBS. I may one day go to Waldo Bikes for retail purchases. Thanks for the information. Does anyone know of a bike coop in the KCMO area.

I recently saw something like what you're talking about on the web site for the Kansas City Bike Club (but was unable to find it just now) that referred to a project of yours that is similar in nature. It was a project that donated bicycles to folks who couldn't afford them and worked on bikes as a part of the process. I think part of it was that they would show you how to fix your own bike, or help you fix it as part of the project. You might contact the club and get more info on that project. I think it's very close to what you're looking for and i'm thinking of participating so I can learn how to work on my own bike.

Thanks for the info on the collective. Sounds good. Although the area is daylight only for me. Some of my former "customers" came from that neighborhood. Blues Frog
