Hello BF:
I've posted previously about touring forks and rack mounting systems, thank you all for your responses, they were very helpful. I am building up my bike for some touring I hope to do in the future. It is a Motobecane Cafe Noir, which was advertised as a touring bike on BD, though it was not touring-ready as it had a carbon fork (to their credit it has the rear rack-ready mounts). Funnily enough when I purchased it, I had no idea what I would use it for outside of commuting to work, all I knew is that I did not want drop bars and wanted something fast that would not hold me back...so flat-bar road bike it was. Almost a year later, I am very happy with it...it is a very versatile bike (and getting more and more so by the day.
As of now I've got a good touring fork (http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/700c-1-inch-ahead-cr-mo-steel-touring-fork-black-prod15587/) on there, and have some carradice kendal panniers ready and waiting for duty. All that is left is a front rack to mount them on.
I want something light weight and with a front platform for additional items at a sub-$100 price (this rules out the Surly Nice Front Rack, Nitto and others). On the rear I have a Nelson LF saddlebag so the front rack and panniers will serve to balance some weight as well. Have looked at the Jandd Extreme and was not entirely impressed. It is nice and lightweight and a good price but have read that the platform hits the steerer tube when rotated at an extreme angle. The IRD Lhasa (http://store.somafab.com/lhalfrra.html) was to be my top choice as it is nearly the same as the Jandd but they seemed to have solved the platform issue.
Then, today I came across the Bor Yueh BY-218N (http://www.boryueh.com/en/carries/164-by-218n) , it looks really cool! Something unique that I'd love to add to my setup. But it is made from alloy, and I could not find a dealer at quick glance to even get a price estimate. The other Bor Yueh front racks seem very inexpensive (~15 GBP) which seems sort of cheap and fishy.
Has anyone had any experiences with the Bor Yueh racks, know where they might be available, and possibly recommend or steer me away from them? I've found this website (http://nordicgroup.us/bicycleluggageracks/front/) very helpful in comparing front racks, but this specific Bor Yueh rack is not listed there.
Thank you for any information
