I didn't know they did this... Then read this article and googled some

Niki Terpstra (Quick Step), fined 100CHF for public urination

The commissaires have been keeping busy: In a bid to justify their own existence, the often buffoonish panjandrums who run the Tour issue a series of fines to assorted riders and team officials each day for assorted breaches of protocol. Among those hit in the wallet after stage six yesterday were Lars Bak (THR) and Vladimir Gusev (KAT), who were fined 30 Swiss francs each for throwing bidons. Elsewhere in the peloton, Andriy Grivko (AST) and Alexandr Kolobnev (KAT) shipped fines of 100 Swiss francs each for the heinous crime of "public urination".

that's like 120 US dollars... But I mean, come on..... What are they supposed to do, pee in their pants?

If the fine was just for urinating well it's ridiculous but I can think of reasons for a fine. He may have done it while on the bike and sprayed some spectators.:lol:

Without more details it's hard to judge.

There's been a lot of these throughout the tour, and I assume in past tours. Since the whole peleton will stop and pee along the route, my guess is that they just an inappropriate spot to do it.

Niki Terpstra is on my fantasy team, so the real question is whether I get any bonus points for this! :)

The 'Rules of the Tour de France' don't specifically mention urinating but they say riders must comply with articles 621-1 and 635-8 of the French penal code. Presumably these refer to urination.

The rules do mention litter and littering outside designated areas is prohibited.

I suspect they punish blatent transgression to try and keep things under control.

My guess is that if you've got it hanging in the wind when you cruise by some spectators you could be cited for indecent exposure.

I think the idea is that you're supposed to pee as far away from large groups of fans as you can. Easier said than done with fans everywhere.

I say pee in your empty bottles then throw them in the commissar's car window. That's THREE birds with one stone.

What, they don't stop at McDonald's like the rest of us?

Extra points for leaving off the lid.

I was really surprised to see riders urinating on TV the other day. Seems like they usually pan away or something. It was among a fairly large crowd too.

Maybe they will add one or more of these to the caravan, each one supplied with that day's L'Equipe? Just ride up alongside, climb on along with your bike (that's the tricky party).

The roadside fans like to spread out so they have their own space and don't have rival fans compiting for the free stuff that gets thrown their way from the caravans that pass before the riders.

Its probally hard to find a place to urinate, I predict there will be a urination zone like there is a feeding zone and litter zone.

Also riders should throw bottles towards spectators. I find it frustrating when a rider throws a bottle really far into nowhere, ie off a cliff on a decent, when they could have waited 20 seconds untill they saw a group of specators.
