Hi Everyone,

I just picked up a used Redline Conquest Cyclo-x yesterday! The year is probably somewhere between a 1999 and 2002. I can't figure out exactly which one it is since bikepedia doesn't have all the pictures of the models. It's white with red stickers (Redline, Conquest, Cyclo-x, ect...). It's in great shape but the left double shifter is broken. It's a Shimano RX100 STI shifter going to a RX100 derailleur. I've been looking online for either a used or NOS RX100 STI, and am having a really hard time finding the same model shifter. Does anyone know where I can get this shifter, and if not what is a good replacement that will mate up to my RX-100 derailleur?

Any road double (or triple for that matter) left shifter will work (possibly barring some of the newest Shimano shifters and any SRAM/Campy stuff). Your cheapest STI option would be a Sora shifter though you'd have to get used to using the thumb button on the left. Even cheaper would be mounting a front friction shifter assuming your frame has downtube shifter mounts.

Daewon774, You might try to liberally flush the shifter body while working the levers with WD40 first to loosen any hardened grease and then lube with triFlow or LPS2 oil. This may take more than one attempt for repair, but often works on Shimano shifters. The hardened grease is common for shifters that have sat unused for a great length of time and if there's no crash damage evident, goes to the top of the diagnostic list.

FWIW, the RX100 8S was a well regarded group and often thought to be a 105 group of a different color to fill the slot between RSX and 105.

Thanks for the replies. I will try the WD40 and lube method!

Also, is there any place that anyone knows of that sells new old stock vintage shifters? I'd like to get a matching shifter if possible. If not, I will have to go with something else that is a double. Why is it that the newer modern shifters won't work? Is the pull on the shifter wire different in length? Is that why a newer model would not work?

Get them rebuilt by the guy on facebook.

There are new 8 speed shifters (bottom end for sure) that work fine. 9 speed shifters work for 9 speeds, 10 speed shifters work for 10 speeds, and 8 speed shifters work for 8 speeds.

Shimano R500, ST2200, and ST2300 are all 8 speed.

Unless he wants a matching set, he only needs a left hand shifter in which case 8/9/10 speed is irrelevant. I did mention that some of the newer Shimano stuff might not work but I believe it's only the newest Dura Ace stuff. As far as I know, all other Shimano road shifters pull the same amount of cable for each shift.

I mention this because it's often easier to find single replacement shifters especially when looking for older used goods. The right hand shifter is usually the one that goes first.

Google Facebook STI repair. Guy has done five sets of 7 and 8 speed STI for me.
