Yes - the Tokyo subway crush is for real. Here is my favourite in the same style.

John Eales was the captain of the Australian Rugby Union team for a long time...

Good reason fo me to never go to Tokyo. I can't stand the push to get out of a plane when they open the door. That looks 1000 times worse.

Sometimes I feel guilty about driving to work in my own car by myself and parking in the underground garage. Not after watching that.

The Tokyo trains are actually really good. Luckily I wasn't traveling at peak hour!

Amazingly fast and smooth. You can't even feel them accelerating to 130mph and braking to a stop by the next station!

I think that is why they have female-only cars, right?

One of my Japanese friends was telling me that the guards get fired if they don't get everyone on the train.

JR recently built up a rush hour service model that has more doors and no seats.

That yellow one, I think that's the one that runs down the middle in tokyo, but the one that gets REALLY crowded is the green line that goes in a loop.

Nah, they just don't want men stealing the maxi pads and tampons from the restrooms.

Those poor people, those rail conductors are making sardines out of them. I thought I heard a passenger take her last gasps of air before being pushed in.

At 6' tall I'd only be up to my armpits, although I might be hitting my head on the ceiling.

The Japanese even have porn based on these situations: Chikan. Freaky.

I wonder how many people die from getting smothered?

My last trip on MARC (DC) was just like that. Much worse than anything I'd experienced in Tokyo.

Taking the bus at 2PM (school kid's rush hour) was pretty much like that during my high school years. I often missed my stop because I could not get out.

That's because Hector Valdese duct-taped you to the bus seat so he could walk your girlfriend Rosita home.

*It's a shame I have to fill in the missing drama Rube leaves out on purpose.

I really dislike taking the "school" buses at that time. Unruly, loud and packed. grrrr

When I was in Tokyo, I got to experience "The Crush". It's really weird being a 6'3" Westerner, and at that time, I weighed in at close to 400 pounds. One lady asked if I was an American Sumo wrestler.

By the way, I really was only armpit deep.

Another odd thing by Western urban standards. I dropped my wallet, and a man returned it to me in that crowd, and all the money was there, as were my credit cards. He loked like a Yakuza gangster, in the movies, by the way......shiny suit and tats. When I thanked him, he just said it was only his duty. He and his at the time GF, now his wife also took me and my wife clubbing in Tokyo, and MAN, talk about a fun freakin' town! I gotta go back before I die, that's for sure!

I may well get the chance, by the way. My Niece (my brothers oldest daughter) is wanting to be an illustrator/animator for Manga and Anime and has contacts in Japan in the industry she's been developing while she's been attending Heron Fine Arts School (IU, Indianapolis). She's quite an artist.

Nope, just was there on vacation, as an unplanned stopover. We were coming home for a month when I was under contract to DeBeers, working out of Capetown, South Africa and flew home via Japan and Hawaii, and had a 4 day layover in Tokyo, so we took advantage.

Geez, that's the long way home.

It was cheaper than a direct flight by $500, so it was a wash, cost wise, and a lot more fun!

I can't disagree with either of the above! :thumb:
