Tandem Cycling - New (to me) Tandem - Quick Question About Components

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Picked up a tandem on CL (Univega) for me and the wife to give it a go. It currently has grip shifts but I'd like to put some rapid fire (trigger) shifters on it. I can just use regualr mountain bike shifters right? Nothing special about tandem shifters? Any good sites that you know of to order the longer cabling I'll need? I did not see it on unversalcylcles.com.
Thanks

Yep, you should have no problem with triggers vs grip shifters - cable pull per gear is the same, just the length is different. A lot of people will go up about one grade of shifter compared to a single to keep the shift as precise as possible, but it's not required.
Any LBS should be able to get you cables - you can also try searching by length rather than tandem - measure the ones you already have to know the minimum length.
Enjoy your tandem.
