Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - Looking for some help on bike selection. Here's the sitch...

The main reason i joined on is i am looking to purchase a bike and would like some expert help in finding one at a good price.

Here is my dilemma....

I am a 7/0 guy an easy 350, and im looking to get back into riding to help out with my weight and as exercise.

Goal, find a bike that i can get for under $400 shipped (less is always better) that will support me and not make me look like a clown on a children's tricycle. Also, im only 24 so style is still an aspect for me, prefer mountain bike type look. Thanks in advance!

Okay here's an easy way to size a bike frame, head down to your LBS and take a look at some bikes there(even if you don't want to buy there). Even if they went let you test fit the frames by hopping on, you should be able to get a general idea from standover, you want the top tube at about 2 inches below your inseam or rather, this is what I have been told and found works for me. As for weight considerations, I'm a very light person myself you'll probably get a much faster/accurate response from the clydesdale/athena forum on that part.

I'm 6/5 with a long inseam and had a heck of a time finding a hybrid big enough. Even now with the XXL that has a 873mm standover and a 620mm top tube I still needed a 400mm seatpost extended to the limit to allow my legs to (almost) straighten out on the pedal stroke. I'm afraid you may need to compromise on riding position or go for a custom.

In your situation, you really only have a few options....

Look for a very large used bike (70 cm or larger), or go custom.

This bike is over in Valparaiso, Indiana. It's the largest frame bike I can find in your area, at about a 68 cm frame.

The custom option would be something like a Zinn or CoMotion custom. We have a member here,. Mazama, who has a CoMotopn Mazama Custom, who's ypur height and weight.

Zinn will start you out about $5K and up

Look for a used 70 cm or larger road bike on craig's list or on ebay is my best advice.

I went to the local bike place and came out with deciding on getting a Specialized Hardrock Disc 29 XXL (Shown Here: http://www.specialized.com/us/en/bc/SBCProduct.jsp?spid=62173&scid=1099&scname=2012+Early+Launch) and im going to go with the White/Black combo (http://s7d5.scene7.com/is/image/Specialized/9126?$Display$).

Now im wondering if you guys know anywhere that may have this for a discounted rate over the $580. Call me a cheap ass or whatever, but if i can save a few bucks ill do it. Im guessing this probably isnt possible though as its a 2012 model.
