Mountain Biking - Another Jekyll Question...

I am getting annoyed with the rear lockout on my jekyll and was in the process of removing it for the stock lever lockout and I was thinking, would it be wise to but another rear shock for the bike as this is a non standard fox float rl shock, as a backup? Also does rock shox or any other company make a jekyll compatable rear shock that will work with the adjustable geometry frame?

I have an '02 Jekyll and have been considering the same course of action since the shock is a unique part to Jekylls. I'm assuming that the shock on your bike is a Manitou because of the year of the bike. My bike has a Fox Float L on it. Fox is the only other company that made a shock for the Jekyll frame; two models were offered through '03, the Float L and Float RL. Float L is air sprung w/ lockout, RL air sprung, lockout and externally adjustable rebound damping. Due to the age of my shock and the fact that I can't seem to break the threads open to replace the seals which need to be done eventually, I'm considering picking up a Float RL before Fox stops making them, I've been given a rough estimate of 350 for a Float RL with new shock collar. One of my LBSs advised me to do this within the next 6 months or so since Fox has stopped supplying C-dale. They also said if I wanted to switch to a Manitou I probably have ~ 1 1/2 years before they will start becoming really hard to find.

I agree with you on the lockout on this bike, I don't have the remote lever for my handlebar, but have grown more warry of using the lockout. I used to use it heavily, espcially when climbing or riding pavement, but forgeting to unlock for downhills was annoying, and due to my weight (220 +) I ovalized the rear reducer and bushing on the shock pretty quickly. Cheap and easy to replace though. I'd be interested to hear what you end up doing.

I have the RL also on the 04 model. I am going to scower ebay for the shock and see what happens. I really like the bike4 but I am considering striping it eventually, selling the frame set with the headshok and building another bike. We will see on that course of action but I am a little woried about the rear shock on the bike...

Funny I've entertained the same idea. Would like a new MTB, but first "real" roadie comes first. Need it to lose some weight so I can really justify a MTB :D
