I bought one of this plastic thingies that's supposed to go on the kitchen sink drain to stop it from draining while washing the dishes... "It has the right size and all, looks like it's gonna fit just fine" I thought...

Oh well, one small detail: IT FLOATS! Talk about product fail :notamused:

Well at least it's a fail that doesn't involve fire or the fire department.

Did you shove it all the way down in the hole?

those are usually press fit in my experience. sometimes you can hold it down until you get enough water on top to press down and make a seal.

That style is for Insinkerator disposals. If have a disposal it will fit tightly in the hole and won't float.

That is exactly what I've been using in my kitchen for 10 years.

Pretty much, yes. Usually, the wrong hole provides immediate and vocal feedback.

There are only a few types. Go purchase a different type and help keep our economy from crashing one sink hole cover at a time.

Heh, heh... your car-wrenching luck also applies to home projects!!! ;)

The stopper you have goes into a garbage-disposal sink. You jam it down the hole and it sticks at the bottom where the diameter is smaller. If you have a regular sink without disposal, you need one of these:

Rubester.
Ram an orange into the drain cup till you're done washing those car parts.
Save,peel and eat,for a real Florida treat.

Is that 2 roaches next to the sink on the left?

Small yellow hand towel.

Is that 2 roaches next to the sink on the left?

No. Roaches usually hide below the sink, not on top of it.

Ruben, you gotta flip that thing over so the protruding part is IN the hole. Stick it in and the fill the sink with water. Trust me, it will NOT float.

....and you'll need pliers to get it out....

you should get one from japan. They sure know how to stuff things into cramped places without it floating away.

Nah nah nah... Doohickie was right. The thing is designed for the garbage disposal side which is a little bit bigger. I thought both sides were the same, but they aren't. When using the bigger hole it works like a charm (I know that's gonna be quoted, oh well):
