Mountain Biking - Seating query..

I took my hybrid or mountain bike whatever you want to call it for it's maiden voyage, and I only have one thing I didn't like, when seated I could feel every bump and dip worse then a stiff road bike it felt like.. I know nothing about suspension in seatposts, but I can't imagine it's bad?

I have a cheap sproingy seatpost that I used to complete my KHS cuz it was the only 26.8 the bike shop had and I wanted to ride the bike that day or else!

Worst thing ever created. The KHS is like a whole new bike now that I've got a cheap rigid seatpost jammed in there.

If you do go for a cheap suspension seatpost you may want to get one with a head on it, depending on the hardware that clamps your saddle now.

Gel saddles are even worse than cheap suspension seat posts. Your ass squirms all over the place and it just ain't right. Added bonus they often weigh a ton.

I think I was just being a wuss, the ride is incredibly smooth on asphalt and I hadn't ridden a bike on a trail in 10+ years.. I'll just keep going and see if I can't adapt

Yeah, on anything but the smoothest trails you'll be riding with your butt out of the saddle half the time (or more). As someone once said, you already have the world's best and most sophisticated bike suspension ever devised: your knees.

If one of you wouldn't mind, (and if you know), how much performance am I losing for the comfort of that front suspension fork? It's a 2.6fs suntour I believe...

I've put a lot of miles on both rigid and sus forks (several decades on fully rigid), and I wouldn't go back to rigid if you paid me (well, maybe if you paid me a lot...). Rigid forks have their place, and many people prefer them, but IMO if you're doing any decent amount of offroad riding then the pros far outweigh the cons. For me personally there are virtually no cons as I've never noticed any appreciable power loss with a sus fork, YMMV.
Someone here will undoubtedly suggest a lockout fork, but I never found the need to even use the LO (on my bikes that have it).

Thanks much everyone! I think I'm gonna just ride it as is for a while, the components are cheap but solid, as is the frame, I think with a total of 50 bucks and 1-2 hours invested in this bike total, it was a good deal.
