Mountain Biking - And Giant has just gone full on stupid.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Indeed! WTF? It's a joke, right? Unbelievable that Giant would muck up steerer tube standards even more by adding 1/8" to the top of the taper.

On an entirely different note, WTF is with all the javascript that site wants to run just to look at a picture of a bike?

Manufacturers are always looking for ways to set themselves apart from the competition, and to lure consumers who may already have a fairly expensive, late-model machine, but can't resist buying the "latest and greatest" (and have the money to do it). Apple Computer are masters at this sort of thing.
I suspect it's got a lot more to do with marketing than with technology.

It's a compensation thing, you know, like guys who drive around in those big trucks, and have little weenies.
