Pacific Northwest - Olympic Peninsula - west from Sequim

Rode out to Neah Bay recently, and if the weather is good this is a fantastic ride. Hwy 112 leaves Hwy 101 just west of Port Angeles and you have good road and wonderful views, but the road does not hug the coast for most of the route. Gentle rollers and only a few real hills. My wife and daughter met me, as I would not have had the legs for the 88+ miles each way. It's an extra 9 miles out to Cape Flattery.

The main caution is about the logging trucks. If you go on a "work day" do not ride west to east as the 18 wheelers + 55 mph limit + twisty road would be NO FUN. If the trucks don't run on Sundays or holidays, then a tailwind certainly beats a headwind.

I think I saw info on a rails to trails along the north end of that route. Did you pick up any of that trail on your ride? If so, I was wondering if it was paved and what condition it is in.

Sorry just rode Hwy 101 then Hwy 112 this time.
I have ridden a section of the Olympic Discovery Trail out of Sequim going west for about 5 miles and while it is OK it is not conducive to making any mileage or holding a steady speed. It was all pavement and in generally good condition about a year ago.

Thanks - good info. Sounds like it'd be better to stay on the highway.

....only if you like riding busy highways. the trail between sequim and PA is a MUCH nicer route between those two cities for a bicyclist.

there's also a newly minted, unpaved, equestrian and bike trail running west out of port angeles, but the paved trail between PA and Sequim is downright delightful.

and its not too bad on a weekday out those parts on 112 riding east, just keep bright and visible and a rear view mirror to watch for trucks.....
