Foo - Big job interview

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Friday morning I have a job interview for a midlevel management job. I plan to wear black Docker pants, black shoes. I want to be conservative yet wear a shirt that is appropriate but noticeable. Red shirt? Maybe a very nice white shirt? I have lots of clothes so I probably wont have to go out and buy one. Ties and jackets are not recommended. Suggesstions please. Thanks

Who said ties and jackets aren't recommended?
What colors are you told you look best in? I would go for a color that compliments your hair/eye/skin color. I tend to look good in pale blues or greens, as I have blue eyes and brownish hair and tend to be a bit tan most of the year.
Also, could you do a dress shirt and a sport coat without a tie?
Puffy shirt from Seinfeld.

If you go this route, toss in a sombrero, polyster BELL bottom pants, and some platform shoes, maybe ones with goldfish in the heels.

Mid level yes-man? Iron out the suit just in case but I think nice longsleeve with tie should be OK. It really depends on the expected salary IMHO. I don't get the suit out for less than $xxxxx.00 yearly.

If a tie is definitely out, maybe something like this:

Traditional, but has a pattern that kind of pops.

^^This.
A white shirt would be too plain.
You could also post pictures of what you think you might wear such as shirts, ties, and slacks. Then people might have a better idea. I know it would help me.
I'll also agree with jsharr. What colors compliment you?
If tie and jacket are prohibited (are they?), then I would go with khaki pants and a navy blue polo shirt, and have a casual sport jacket handy in case you have to dress up the look quickly.
Khaki pants and navy polo shirts are the basic biz uniform most places these days.
I would definitely listen to the Foo Girls b4 anybody else. Girls know this stuff.
Why are you applying for a job with a company that works on Fridays?

First off, best of luck with the interview.
Second, what are the other midlevel managers wearing?
If that doesn't help, I'd go with a white shirt and nice tie. Perhaps a coat, but usually I find that is dressing above the midlevel management in most companies.
Location and season takes a part too. Not even my CEO will be seen in mid Florida's 90+ degrees summer with a coat or a tie. Maybe long sleeve, if is not too tick and doesn't make him sweet in the walk from his reserved parking spot to the building (AKA no-ac travel distance).

If you wear a red shirt, make sure there's no one there named Kirk or McCoy. Or, uh, Spock.
Make sure there's no pissed off bulls around either.

Just go the Lady Gaga route and wear nothing but goldfish and a sombrero.
+1 on jsharr's skin tone suggestion; maybe some quick cell phone shots of you wearing a few colors can help decide.
I understand you don't wanna go in way way overdressed, but for a job interview, I think it's much better to err in that direction than the other extreme. In the end it's your skills and personality that will land you the job but clothes are a relatively easy way to eliminate a strike against you.
Good luck!

It wasn't my playgirl spread that got me the job?
Make sure the first job applicant is not still under the bosses desk when you walk in for the interview.

Oh, and remember: Next Friday...is Hawaiian shirt day. So, you know, if you want to, go ahead and wear a Hawaiian shirt and jeans.

Originally, I read "midlevel" as "medieval" and was gonna recommend an armoured suit with a helmet that has a long feather sticking out of the top.
Then I re-read the post. I'd choose the shirt that prompted compliments from people in the past. But maybe not if that particular shirt is covered in the blood of your liege lord's enemies.
The common practice is to dress like you will when you have the job, or a step higher. No ties because patients grab them and choke you to death with them. It will be close to 100 degrees today. I cant bring myself to wear the jacket.
Who said ties and jackets aren't recommended?
I noticed I have two dark green shirts, my wife bought them, she thinks I look best in them, so she bought the extra one. I did not get time to reply last night but I did read this thread it was between the dark green one and the striped blue one later.
What colors are you told you look best in? I would go for a color that compliments your hair/eye/skin color. I tend to look good in pale blues or greens, as I have blue eyes and brownish hair and tend to be a bit tan most of the year.
I have applied for this job twice, and dont plan to quit. The incumbents are retirering so if I dont get it this time, I will go with the sombreo and fish shoes next time. Why not?

I have this exact shirt, well the Nautica version, but I am going with this. Thanks everyone. Sometimes I go crazy and wear my Garcia burnt orange shirt and psycodelic tie (last time I applied for this job) so thanks for the tips and stopping me from doing something crazy.

I have been around here for years and I am just now finding out there are "foo Girls", why is that? Maybe I am just slow? :o
I would definitely listen to the Foo Girls b4 anybody else. Girls know this stuff.
Yea, and they wont let me drink beer at work either, maybe I should reconsider.

Thanks, I will dress up next time if I dont get this one. It is kinda strange, the people interviewing me I have probably know for 15 years. I already have a great job and if I get the new one I dont know if they would replace me on my current position or not, so my entire program could hit the dumper. I am probably the most qualified for this job but I think my current position might be why I havent got it yet. Course it might be that they just dont like me. Jerks.
First off, best of luck with the interview.

100 degrees today, and probably close today. I dont really wanna wear a shirt at all.
That would be appropriate for the weather.
Just go the Lady Gaga route and wear nothing but goldfish and a sombrero.
I dont care how I get it, sympathy would work for me. Maybe I will do a playgirl spread too if I dont get it this time.
I've met you......it was a sympathy hire, dude! :p
Thanks everyone, I have got to get going. This thread helped me focus and made sure I did not go with my Jerry Garcia psychodelic tie and orange shirt. Actually I really do kinda like that one. Well, I wont be devestated if I dont get it, but if I do I will throw a kegar party at Toms. Hehe.

You spend too much time in P&R. :P
Well I think it went very well. Thanks everyone. I think I might perfer the foo girls to the P&R gang, but dont tell them. They are really a sensitive bunch of guys.
what did you end up wearing? if you get the job, you owe me some beef jerky, as I was obviously the most helpful.
If I get this job I will keep you in beef jerky for a while. Promise.
