Classic & Vintage - 1970 Schwinn Paramount

Hi, I just purchased a 1970 schwinn paramount yesterday, Its in good shape except for the paint and some dirty components. Does anyone know of a place that will do a restoration job, I know waterford would do it but im concerned about cost, Im 24 and dont make much money. Thanks for any information.

CyclArt, Vista CA (www.cyclart.com) did a great job repainting my Capo, but you can probably find a reputable refinisher closer to home.

When i purchased my Paramount in 1975, i wanted a Cinelli, the schwinn dealer showed me my paramount, did his sell, but i wanted the cinelli. as i was ready to leave, he goes..."look, why bye a italain bike, when you get the same thing , same parts here, and the best part is....down the road when you want it repainted, schwinn does for only $50, as a service to you. and after all, we are not going anywhere" Well, they did go somewhere and i nevr got my 50 dollar paint job, ended up paying way over twice that. just a thought when i read your post

i bought a paramount 3 years ago from a yard sale for 20 bucks. bike looks like it almost very few miles on it. Obviously they didn't know what they had to sell it for 20 bucks, I wasn't going to tell them.

I have no idea what year it is. Any one know how I can tell? probably from the components right? I'll have to make a note of them and take a picture of it tonight.

Looks like I have a PDG series 2

just snapped a picture of it. So it looks like this is the bottom of the barrell for paramount bikes.

would this thing be worth anything? To the right person? I only paid 20 bucks for it, but I bought it because I love bikes, not because I thought it would be worth anything so I got my moneys worth.

Try UrbanBikes under the El at Wilson. It's a collective and they have all sorts of old components in the basement and in a warehouse around the corner from the main shop. Any good mechanic is going to cost you some, so if you are not going to do your restoration on you own, you should expect to get what you pay for. Nevertheless, you have a classic bike and want someone who's been around for a while and knows paramounts to work on you new/old machine, I think. There are older folks there who have been around the block and will know your frame and proper components, etc., and love putting old bikes back on the road. Good luck, and I'll watch for your old paramount on the road.
