I don't know where you are, could be lots of places with that temp, sorry about that. I rode 55 miles out of Eugene, 70 degrees and partly cloudy skies....PERFECT

Looks like normal riding weather for this time of year. What's the problem?

I've been wimping out too and for the same reason.
My daughter in Seattle has been complaining of having to run her furnace to keep the house warm. We visited her last week and it was GREAT! We tried to bring some of that cool weather back with us but my wife put it into her carry-on bag and the airport security folks confiscated it.

We hit 96 with a heat index of 107 and I took the day off also. I'll get out at 6:00 AM tomorrow when it is still in the low 80's.

What's that in Celsius so the rest of the world can understand the problem?

Too steamy to be going out today. It went up to 97F today in Toronto. It's still 88F at 10pm with a humidex of 107F.

broke record yesterday hit 100,stay in and watch Tour.Should be very good today last day before time trials sat.
Riding in such heat isn't that much of an issue for me. Unfortunately, however, the air quality index has also been way off the charts that last two days. Hence, I either ride right at day break or right before sunset. The early morning rides seem to be the most tolerable. Today at 5:15 a.m. it was only 78 degrees at the start of the ride. Upon return at 7:30 it was up to 86. If it stays this way (hot and poor air quality) much longer, I may switch to night rides.

Yup and we're supposed to be the Great White Frozen North remember. We were a whisker (a very small whisker) away from an all-time record. Supposed to cool down to 35C (95F) today. Somehow I don't think that will help that much.

That's what I did last night. Put the lights on my bike and headed out about 7:50pm. Last 45 minutes was in the dark. The only positive thing about the ride was the sun wasn't out. It was still 92 degrees when I finished.

Been doing part of my commute almost daily for the past month by bike (car/train/1.5mi to ferry on bike/ferry/3.5mi on bike to work - reverse in the afternoon...) Sweating like a dog even in the AM most days - today was 86 and humid at 5 AM in NY Metro area and will definately break 100 - thing is I enjoy the commute so much, hot or not I am riding!

I drove over to Akron Thursday, the car thermometer hit 105f. That seems a little high; don't know where the outside temp. sensor on my HHR is located, probably on the engine block.:o

Only going to be 97 here today.
When I'm riding I don't feel hot (really a pretty effective natural cooling system our bodies have), but when I stop--then the heat slams me.
Indianapolis hit 100 yesterday. All week long we've had heat indexes of 110-114 or so. We've had a week-long "excessive heat warning" that's in effect until 8:00 PM Saturday night. "Excessive heat warning" - sounds like it's a choice, like "unnecessarily hot."

The hotter it gets the earlier I start. That works especially well here in the high desert.

Yesterday morning it was not so bad here in So NH, so I was able to do an hour & a half ride, sticking to the shady back roads. But, this morning it was already 80* & humid at 7:30 - too much for me. I did go out to water the garden and was sweating like a fountain after 15 minutes.
On a happy note, the garden LOVES this heat. I think my squash & tomatoes plants grew 6" in one day.
I've been riding the rail trail to avoid the heat.:ride: Its shaded and without the asphalt isn't nearly the blast furnace that the roads have been of late. Bonus, like Rome, all roads lead to pie!:D In fact, thinking of trying a new place tomorrow off of the Sugar River trail.

I tried to ride 8 miles to work on the WO&D that passes my doctor's office. It was about 90F at 9am. The bike had mechanical issues - rear tire rubbing the chainstay. It turns out the fancy new skewer I bought and installed isn't up to the job. After 30 minutes messing with it and the dropout adjustment screws I gave up, packed up the gear, and drove to work.
I need to get riding again in order to train for my Sept and Oct rides --- but I wasn't too disappointed today - I was soaked with sweat just trying to adjust the bike.

I've been riding early all week, 7, 7:30 or so. Went out at 7 today with a buddie, we did a quick run to Jones Beach, south shore of Long Island. The temp when we left Bethpage was 82 ? - 85 ?. At the beach it was 78 with a WSW breeze at 15 or so and I almost called home for a SAG. Finally got rolling and by the time we got back to the car it was 90.
Day off tomorrow.

I am hoping to get out today as well current temperature 24℃/75℉ feels like 32C/90F
Forecast is 28℃/82℉ feeling like 37C/99F
Generally I don't ride when it feels like more then 35C, so I may try for a short ride later this morning, before it gets really baking, last ride was 11 days ago, I was hoping to beat last year for the month, but it doesn't look likely now, to much distance and too few days left. :(

Fort Wayne did 100 on the 21st, as well; I'm not happy with the euphemisms they come with anymore. What did they call it 20 years ago? Something in plain English, I'm sure.

If you want to start early and get in a good ride before the heat, think 5:00 AM rather than 7:00 AM. Besides, the pain of getting up that early makes the burn of long steep hills seem mild in comparison. <G>
Before sunrise or after sunset, or anywhere you can get extended shade. Take it easy out there folks.
