Just ran across this (http://mojavedesertoutpost.com). Mojave National Preserve has private in-holdings, so hence this. Useful resource if you're touring from LA to LV or Northern AZ to LA this fall/winter.

Midhills Campground is in that same area (relatively speaking), pretty nice place, running water available. Hole-In-The-Wall campground is a bit farther South w/ water also but not much shade.
