Professional Cycling For the Fans - TdF- Is it just an opportunity for French cycling fans to dress in bikinis?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I am wondering about some of the 'fashion' choices some of the fans at the Tour de France. Is it this prevelant at other races and European sporting events?:twitchy:

It's just you yanks visiting the country that dress poorly isn't it? **ducks and runs**
Being serious for a minute (I should be clear here, America doesn't have a monopoly on embarressing idiots, the halfwit wearing the full body suit in Australian colours springs readily to mind), there does seem to be a sizeable increase in the number of people who are dressing and behaving in a manner that suggests they only want to get on television. Sure, it can be spun as 'fans wanting to support the racers' but I'm always suspicious of people trying to be conspicuous, particularly in this media saturated age. As long as they keep it on the verges, it's okay, the thing I'm starting to hate is the senseless running up the road next to the riders. How long before we see a race ruined by a dumb spectator (as opposed to some of the accidents that have happened in the past - Lance and his handbag, the climber and the photographer, various dogs)?

At least non-French cows, dogs, and horses have the decency not to buy a plane ticket and come screw things up at the Tour.

Which is why this yank got a kick out of seeing Alberto the BeefEater deliver a jab to the jaw of the moron in the doctor's outfit that was trying to reach in and place his stethoscope on his chest! The Spaniard really IS a "punchy" little climber!
Have seen enough races to know the urge to run along with the champions is real. Not crazy enough to do it in a mankini, however.
Suspect the problem is going to get worse.
If you saw the Tour of California you know the problem is not specific to Europe.
