Classic & Vintage - Vintage MTB reworked as Dutchie Style City Bike

Picked this up for $35 a while back. New bars, new housing and cable, that's it so far. Needs some beautification on the seat tube QR, and possibly a new seat post and a sprung brooks saddle.

I like it.

As you can see the frame is in hard shape. But I decided to leave it that way, to deter theft.

Needs more stem.

i was aiming for a huge cockpit like that. I wanted to be, and am, completely upright on the bike.

Perfect city bike! Even has nutted axles. The Exage 300 components will serve you well. Those look like Weinmann concave rims.
Interesting frame, with monostay triangle. Might be a Giant.

That cockpit looks TIGHT! I've generally had problems when I tried getting away from straight bars with a MTB. If you can get that comfortable, I think it'd make a lot more sense than the real dutch bikes - it should be lighter and more versatile.

i'd flip the bars and lower the stem a bit, but whatever works

Yeah it is a bit tight, but not so bad since I put the seat back a little. Still it's a "knees out" kind of ride on the turns. lol.
Frame is a little heavier than I would like, but not too bad.

Yeah I'm liking the Exage so far, and the nutted axles are definitely a bonus in this case. It has Suzue Hubs too (I think the rims might be Araya).

Stem/bars are one piece so they can't be flipped. It was a cheap way to get a tall stem and wide bars. A LBS was taking them off a Viva bike to open them up a bit, and had a few of these just lying around, so I got them for $20. I'm hoping to put either some Big Apples or some Bontragger white walls on her, and hopefully some chrome fenders.

Bar tape either needs to go further or not as far.

I like mountain bike derailleurs, even though I don't ride mountain bikes.

I suggest regular grips. You'll like them.

The cream colored big apples are a mistake. If you buy them for your bike, you will instantly be taken with how cool it looks, and all of a sudden you'll start buying cosmetic upgrades for your beater bike. I already lost one beater to those tires.
