Hi all,

I have a Bianchi Volpe that I commute regularly on but I thought I might want to try something a little different.
So I got a pretty sweet deal on a Nashbar 29er single speed that I would use as a canvas for a project bike about a year ago.
I ended up doing less to it than I was planning such as keeping the Tektro disc brakes instead of swapping them out for Avid BB_.
I did however replace the single speed hub with a Shimano Alfine 8 speed IGH and also replaced the 29er knobbies with less knobbier 700c x 32 WTB cross tires (old tires from my Volpe).
Seeing as I'm no expert home-mechanic I obviously had my LBS rebuild the rear wheel with the IGH it.
After riding this bike for about 9 months intermittently it's become clear to me that the two of us just aren't a match.
I would like to cut my losses and sell it to someone who either has more patience to correct the things that are wrong with it (needs a new headset) or just wants a new bike.
So all that being said I was wondering if I would have better luck A) selling the bike as is, B) removing the IGH and replacing it with the original single-speed hub (incurring yet another labor fee) and selling the Alfine separately from the bike, or C) Selling the bike as a single speed and keeping the Alfine for my Volpe.

tl;dr: bought a Nashbar SS 29er as a project bike, put an Alfine IGH in it. The bike and I don't really care for each other anymore and I want to sell it locally on craigslist and was wondering what my best option is.

Just curious, what might you be looking to sell said bike for? Any pictures? What is it that you don't like about the bike?

You'll probably get the most return on selling the bike as-is, since it would take more shop labor to swap back to the original hub. I would imagine it's pretty easy to sell a bike like that in Athens.

Well I decided to go with the whole package and sell it as is. I sure would have liked to have kept the Alfine hub to put on my volpe later. But maybe I'll take it as a sign to get the Alfine 11 speed (anyone else follow Alan on ecovelo?) when I want to upgrade my Bianchi.

You're right about that bike probably selling in Athens but I actually moved up to Worcester, Mass a couple months ago and just haven't updated my BF location. Maybe I'll have similar luck in Massachusetts.

I did have pictures in my signature but I took them down so as not to arouse non-paid spam ire.

Your Volpe is pretty. Stop cheating on it.
