I don't know about you guys, but man! do I have a runny, dripping nose while riding in the cold,
is this normal ? It really cuts into your breathing rythm while trying to maintain a sustaine effort.
What can I do to prevent or control it other than having to blow my nose every couple minutes?!
I mean I'm dress fine for the weather otherwise, feeling cold is not the problem, just the damn runny, drippy nose!

Any solutions to this ? What have you tried?

I've always been told the runny nose is a good way to keep bacteria out. Probably just bs. I always opt for the 'farmer's blow" when I ride. I also try to make sure a car isn't passing when I do it! :D

I've been getting that almost daily. The harder I breathe the worse it gets.

That's what gloves are for.

Ah! I started a similar thread in the General forum, and continued in the women's regarding the 'farmer' approach.

What I've found, after much research: Astelin, which is prescribed for exercise-induced vasomotor rhinitis. Works okay, but not great. Tried Claritin-D, 12-hour. Worked, but still ran through a pile of tissues on my ride, it made me thirsty, and it might have made me a little ditzy. Finally got a prescription for Atrovent nasal spray. I carry Atrovent puffer for cold-weather/exercise-induced asthma, but very, very rarely use it. The nasal spray versions seemed to work amazingly well. Sunday was my coldest ride yet (okay, it was only in the 40's) and it normally would have been a complete, non-stop run, but I just had a few sniffles. Of course, talk to your doctor first, but the Atrovent nasal spray (NOT the asthma-inhaler puffer) really worked well for me.

Snort a few lines of Alum...(spice not metal.)

And I'm joking.
