A bill has been submitted by Long Islands State Senator Fuschillo to require all new road projects to consider ALL users. The bill is currently on the Governor's desk. I am not sure if it has been signed yet but it would not hurt to call and email our Governor.

A major road through my Long Island town is currently undergoing major renovations. Early in the planning stages of the project, I put together a "movement" to urge that the blueprints include some consideration for cyclists, joggers, skateboarders, etc. The response I received from those behind the project was that mine was certainly a good idea; however, a little "too" good, as implementing such a project in my town would encourage people in OTHER towns to ask for the same. In the end, all we've got is another lane for automobiles, a repaired sidewalk that no one ever uses, and still no safe place for cyclists to ride.

Hopefully, this bill will ensure that the same mistake is not made in the future.
