I'm trying to build a CX bike on a budget, and decided to go with this frame:
http://www.nashbar.com/bikes/Product_10053_10052_173397_-1_202650_10000_202337

I want to make it a single-speed build, so I was planning on using this conversion kit: http://www.performancebike.com/bikes/Product_10052_10551_1031512_-1___

I've never done anything like this before, nor have I heard much about it, but I was wondering how effective a kit like this was? And if it's advisable?

Will there be any performance detractions? And if so, am I better off trying to find a single-speed CX frame?

I am completely new to cross, so I'm open to any other advice on the matter.

We who've had bad experiences with cheap tensioners are legion. I would not cheap out on the drivetrain, in fact I would recommend going for something like this:

$175 sounds like a lot until you compare it to a geared gruppo.

That Motobecane looks like my cheapest option.

Thanks.

Does it get any better than the Orange Uno?
