Are the HID lights worth so much money? Is there a huge difference between them and the Halogen?

I was looking into equipping our 2 bikes with lights for when we start night time commuting and was wondering why they are so darn much money.

Thanks

because first the bulb is not cheap they requre far more electronics (they use a ballast to boost voltage) because people will pay that much money for one.

You get what you pay for, they are brighter, run longer. Mostly run time is the thing.
