Lately, I've been interested in getting a Velocity Aerohead O/C (in a 622 BSD) for a wheelbuilding project. The problem I'm running into is that the numbers on the rim's lateral offset are not consistent from site to site. QBP claims that it is 3.0 mm, while Velocity claims that it is 4.0 mm.

So, I'm not sure who is right, and would rather not risk pulling the trigger on an Aerohead O/C until I have some more-definite number I can plug into Spocalc.

Has anyone had an opportunity to measure the lateral offset on an Aerohead O/C? If so, what kind of number did you get?

The diff in 3.0-4.0 will mean maybe a .25mm to .50mm diff in spoke length.

You are making a molehill out of an anthill...seriously.

Just use Velocity's figure, build the darn wheel and ride.

Just one caveat though...these are light weight rims and like the Mavic Open Pros are light weight racing clinchers. Not quite - but pretty darn close. They won't last forever - aren't everyday commuter rims. As you finish tensioning them you'll notice the sides of the holes will start to bulge a little - which is common with thin and very light weight racing clinchers.

Overall, they are nice rims while they last. American Classic likes to use 'em.

I built a set of Velocity wheel with the o/c rear and used the spoke length they recommended. Cannot say enough good things about the wheel....much more even tension between DS and NDS and the dish is much easier. Great set of hoops, I used fusion on the front with a radial lace and the o/c rear 3 cross, dropped about 1.25 pounds off the bike with the previous bombproof but heavy wheels.

The Fusion front is a heavy rim...gonna change to Aerohead front later as well?
