Road Cycling - old benotto road bike

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
just aquired an old benotto road bike, has campy 980 derailler, ofmega cranks, cerchi nisi rims, modolo brakes--any info on this bike would be appreciated- thanks
Benottos were first made in Italy, later (1980s) in Mexico. Good quality frames and those are decent components. I agree, keep it.

My Bianchi came with Modolo brakes and Ofmega cranks, as well. (I read an interesting theory that Ofmega is the venerable Magistroni company of the 1960s.) Any good steel-framed Italian road bike is worth keeping and riding!
My benotto came with Modolo brakes as well, and it was also the first thing to go. I was going to just change the cables and housing out (I have small hands and it was tough to stop with rusted cables) but the more research I did I found out that modolo brakes aren't really good at stopping even when tuned up and changed out- so I replaced them with some suntours- keep in mind the frame and fork on the bike may have to be drilled to fit newer model brakes the bolt on my modolos were about 1.5 cm longer than the bolt on the suntour- thus causing quite the headache---
I have a Benotto Modelo 800 and it has a heart stamp under the bottom bracket- does yours have anything?

Modolos were not good for stopping? But they were one of the big replacement/upgrades in the good old days!
IIRC, high level modolos were quite good for their era.

The Pro and Master Pro were tops! Even the mid range (Flash, Speedy) were decent....And the bottom end Modolos were poopoo.

I raced with Modolo Speedy brakes for a good number of years ... they seemed to work back then !
