Bicycle Mechanics - Repair Book Suggestions

I have a just recently got a 1987 Scwhinn Le Tour that has been neglected for the last 12 years or more. I want to take the bike completely apart and clean it/ lube all the necessary parts and put it back together.

Obviously this is not something I have done before but I like challenges, so can anyone suggest a good maintenance book that I should get before starting this endeavor?

Also how many bike specific tools do you think I'll need to complete a project like this?

I have zinn's book but haven't used it much, and I have heard that Park Tools big blue book is good.

Tools. To strip the frame

Metric Allen wrenches
Bottom bracket tools
Crank puller
Headset remover and press
Cone wrenches
Metric socket to remove crank bolts

You won't need the headset tools. But watch out when removing fork to grease the headset bearings, they have a tendency to fall out and roll all over the place if it hasn't been greased in a while for the loose ball headsets.

Park is the only book.

There may be a lot of American threads on your bike. Use synthetic grease for all the bearings. You have a freewheel so you'll need a freewheel socket. You need a crank puller but you may not need a bottom bracket socket, a pipe wrench may work.

I will check out the Park Book. I am glad to hear that the list of tools is not too extremely long!

A kind of off topic question I was in my LBS a couple of weeks ago and saw this product Super Lube on their shelves. I am a electrician by trade and some in-slab lights we installed required us to fill these connection boxes up with the same exact stuff. So since I saw it at the bike store and we had some on our material shelf I brought home a tube of it. What is that stuff good for?

Also what is the best thing to clean all those greasy parts in Mineral Spirits?
