I have an old Giant OCR3 with shimano sora group. My ST-3300 3x8 levers are busted. Do I need to get ST-3300, or can I get ST-3400, or any Shimano lever? Could I say, buy a double lever (2x8) instead and just forget about the bottom chain ring? It's just a commuter bike, so I just need it operational and I can't spend a lot of money. I'm hoping to find some used levers, but no luck finding used in exact model replacements.

You may be able to find shifters at a good price on e-bay. For a commuter and for trouble free operation I'd look for bar end shifters. These last forever and are reasonably priced. I have a set I bought here on BF from a member in Texas and will be installed in place of the Sora shifters currently on the bike.

9 speed shifters won't work unless you get a 9 speed cassette and chain. Any triple front shifter should work. You can also use non-Sora 8 speed shifters like the Shimano 600 ST-6400, RX100, or RSX shifters.

Which lever actually busted? And what do you mean by busted?
