September 24th and 25th, the MS Society is holding its annual "City to Shore" ride from Philadelphia to Ocean City, NJ. (OK, it's really from Cherry Hill to Ocean City, but "Philadelphia" sounds better.) There are several different routes available, ranging from 25 miles in one day to 175 miles over two days.
I'm riding because far too many people who are close to me have had their lives de-railed by multiple sclerosis. I'd love it if you would donate some money to the cause: http://tinyurl.com/3qz4ll8
Plus, I'd be interested in seeing if other BF folks will be at the ride...

This will be my first time doing "City to Shore", but I've done one other MS Society ride before. It was very well organized, well staffed, and well stocked with food at the rest areas.

That is good to hear, I am sure it will be a fun experience. Good luck

So I've heard that there are going to be about 7000 folks participating. Suddenly I'm concerned about having problems/delays at check in. Any words of reassurance from folks who have done it before?

While I was riding the City to Shore, the bolt that holds my seat clamp to the seat and to the seatpost broke. The guy in the SAG wagon got me new parts and got me on the road again in 15 minutes. No charge.
I'm darn impressed!

I am riding on a set of laoner wheel while my Kysriums are being rebuilt. On the train Saturday morning, my front loaner, which has super thin spokes, got caught on in the pedal of my GF's bike. A spoke broke. We jumped off the train and rode home, where I grabbed a wheel off an old Raleigh sitting in the basement. The tire was suspect so I put the tire from the broken spoke wheel on the Raleigh wheel. Mind you, this is all taking palce before 6 a.m. In my haste, I didn't seat the tire properly and the the tube blew after I inflated it. Had to put in a new tube. That worked, we rode back to the train, made it to the start and hit the road at 7:19. Despite the late start, which forced us to pick our way through slower riders in the early miles, we managed to finish at 12:37. There is something to be said for not lingering at rest stops.
Coming back, we left at 7 and finished at 12.
