I'm Tyler. I've been riding a few years now just to commute to and from work/school and in my free time for fun and exercise. I'm actually getting ready to buy a new rig, as I got hit by a pickup a few weeks ago and it totaled my bike (1980's takara 3-speed). I'm hoping the gurus on this site can help me make my decision. It's between these two:

The seller said this is a 70's Nishiki 59cm. He built it into a single speed from spare parts. I'm having him put drop bars on it for me before I come check it out. I'd jump on this in a second, except I'm honestly not too knowledgeable about what to look for in a used bike, and my last one took a major crap on me after that accident.

If I don't get the used one I'm saving up for this little beast.

I understand that these are NOT high-quality bikes, but they seem to be able to fit my needs. I need to keep it WAY cheap, but still have something rideable to get me around town.

Any opinions?

Howdy and welcome to the forums! Might jump into the Classic and Vintage section and see if they might give you a bit more traffic, hope you get it worked out. Did you get hurt in the accident, any chance the insurance will pay for a new bike?

I wasn't hurt too bad. My back is still a big sore, but the scrapes have mostly healed up. Unfortunately the driver just took off instead of stopping to see if I was ok, so there's really no insurance to help me get a new bike.
