Vilnius mayor mounts a tank to crush car parked in bike lane (http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/envoy/vilnius-mayor-mounts-tank-crush-car-parked-bike-194309742.html)

Sometimes, it seems, there is justice. ;)

Cute but staged.

Considering the traffic in the street, I'm wondering why they even bothered to have bike lanes. I'm guessing the stunt was carried out at 6:00am on Sunday morning.

Nonetheless... if I lived in Lithuania, I'd be very careful where I parked my car.

Well it is strange to see Lithuania moving in one direction and Toronto and New York going the other way. http://www.680news.com/city-hall/article/253117--city-hall-votes-to-remove-jarvis-bike-lanes

It's unfortunately true that in Toronto the current mayor and some council members are anti-bike, but New York is just experiencing growing pains - overall the trend there is pretty pro-bike.

They call my mayor "America's angriest mayor" but this cool Lithuanian guy puts him to shame. I would love to see my mayor (or Mayor Bloomberg) do something like this.

And it looks like he even swept up the mess himself! I wish I could move to Vilnius and vote for him.

Sure it's staged, but that's what it takes to publicize a problem like cars in the bike lane. It also shows official disapproval of bad parking. Of course,

Now there is a surprise--you are all for a meaningless publicity stunt by a politician... And your acceptance that a few seconds of him with a broom on that same publicity stunt means that he cleaned up the mess he created himself is very gullible...

God can you lighten up for one minute, once in your life?

He's not just anti-bike. Last time I was in Toronto, he became the first mayor in a long, long time to avoid showing up at the annual gay pride parade. He mentioned something about spending some time at his cottage. I predict he won't be around next time.

Yep. It's from a Swedish TV-show called "99 nya saker du måste göra innan du dör" (in English: "99 new things you must do before you die"), a follow up from the show "99 saker du måste göra innan du dör". The two guys behind the mayor are the hosts.

Of course it was a staged publicity stunt. But it worked. I haven't seen that much publicity about parking in bike lanes for years. I think most people--even motorists--have a secret wish to crush a car.

Yes, of course it was staged.

"Of course, you have to have a sense of humour in my line of work and I thought this would be a way of drawing attention to the fact that the city intends to be proactive in its fight against illegal parking."

I want a bike mounted rocket launcher... Also, that wasn't a tank. Actual tank would be much cooler and would do a lot more damage to the car :D

No kidding. That guy that took that tank in San Diego destroyed cars, trucks, motor homes, light posts, fire hydrants sidewalks and part of a freeway divider. Then again he did get shot. Wonder if it was a relative of that mayor?
