Touring - Gear Question: Waterproof Pants

Anyone know of any good deals on some gore-tex pants?
I haven't had any before, but I think some with zippers on the sides might be best. I have some waterproof pants now, but they don't exchange vapor like GT and I have to take my shoes off to get them on or off.
The thing is with GT is that its so damn EXPENSIVE!

The most waterproof pants I ever saw are the ones that you change into AFTER your ride that are safely stored away in your plastic-bag lined panniers. Best of all, they don't cost a fortune either.

I wouldn't even bother with gore-tex at all, but for PANTS it is silly. MAYBE you might want to spring for a gore-tex jacket because of its (supposed) breathability and ga-ga factors such as sporty look and impressive name. But in almost any camping or sporting goods outlet you can get a long (make sure they are LONG enough) and Baggy (ditto) waterproof pants that snap all almost all the way up to the waist. I wear ordinary footgear while
cycling and had no problem getting pants I could slip over my shoes when I needed to.

in cold winter rain with no problems. As long as you are wearing synthetic leggings that can handle a bit of dampness, you will be OK. They also work well in very cold wind.
With GT you will get damp from the inside, with Pertex from the outside in the most severe rain. You just pay more for the first.
