11 years ago, when I was in junior high, I had an old Trek 830. I thought it was quite cool, and took it out on singletrack a few times. It has since been stolen and I have never ridden a mountain bike since.

A few basic questions on things I never learned:

How do you hop up a curb?

How do you get air off a curb?

How do you bunny hop in general?

Any other fun urban assault or trail tricks for beginners on hardtails? Assume toeclips (I was on flat no-clips back then).

To hop the bike pull the front wheel up. When it's about as high as it's going to get roll your arms forward while throwing your weight forward. You shouldn't need clips to do it. To get air off a curb, do that while going off a curb. To hop up a curb, do that while going up a curb. The timing is a little more critical going up a curb. I'm by no means a master of the bunny hop, but I hope that helps. Oh... also try that on a freewheeled bike first, work up to the fixed gear.

for urban the best thing is a flat pedal. a good trick to learn is a realyy long wheely. do them sitting down and put it in a middle gear. just practice getting them up an keeping your balance.
PS use your brakes to control your wheely.
