General Cycling Discussion - Which Road Bike to buy? COMPLETELY new to this.

Hi,
so this coming fall im going to be moving away for college and as any college student i need myself a bike. But of course like most college students i am completely broke. So i read around and for my budget which is 200, i should be looking for a used bike if i want anything that wont break in a month.
So after tons of searching i have a couple options for bikes. i was wondering if anyone could give me some input on which bike is even worth considering. Im also completely new to bikes so i know next to nothing about them.

P.s im 5'8.

1. Miyata Road Bike 310 - $150
Info: Vintage Miyata 10 speed road bike with 27 inch racing wheels and tires. Frame size is 22.5 inches from the crank center to the top post. Triple butted Cr-Mo frame. $150 or offer. Built-in air pump. No rust except some on the wheel hub, which needs some cleaning.

4. VINTAGE MENS CENTURION 1980's ROAD BIKE 10 speed - $150

6. Free Spirit 10 Speed Road Bike - $150
info: It is a 10 speeds bike with nice original tires 26 X 1 3/8, still have a lot of life on it. Everything on it is original. NO RUST. Standover height 30" top tube 53 cm, will fit 5' 5" to 5' 8" person. The bike is clean and chain lubed.

#3 The Nishiki (if it was me)

It looks really clean.
700c wheels are easier to get tubes for.
The chromoly steel will give you a good ride quality.

Nishiki...because I used to have one and it served me well.

Of those choices I think I'd pick the Nishiki too.

On the other hand, you may be over-thinking this. It's a college bike - think semi-expendable.

Are you planning to ride to class on the bike? If so a MTB would be a LOT easier to ride around campus. Also, consider it expendable, as bikes are stolen all the time on college campuses.
My daughter is taking her cheap MTB back to college this fall and leaving her not-so-cheap road bike at home (or in her dorm room)

If I were you I'd buy the Nishiki. 54cm is probably the right size for you, if your proportions are average. The Miyata and Raleigh are almost certainly too big.

Since you admit to knowing about bikes, I'm assuming you haven't considered the gearing or ability to take a rack/fenders in your bike buying decision.

For gearing, if you'll be riding hills much, especially with a backpack full of books, you'll likely not appreciate "race" gearing on your road bike. I didn't look through every bike but the Nishiki everyone is favoring appears to have a 52/42 double. As someone who bikes every day through hills, that is not the gearing I'd want on my every day bike.

As to a rack and fenders, if you'll be riding every day with a load of books/lunch/whatever, you should look into a rack for carrying it. Getting the weight off your back and on the frame makes for a much more enjoyable ride in my experience. Fenders will keep your clothes from getting ruined by road grime when riding on wet roads or in the rain. They won't keep you dry in the rain but you'll be happier with them than without. The Nishiki, like most road bikes, doesn't appear to have much room for fenders. I can't tell about rack mounts though.
