I'm really looking forward to this ride. This was my first century back in 2008 and the hills really wore me out. I'm hoping to handle it better this time around because the route was outstanding.

Question: it looks like the route is slightly different...instead of going out and back to Elk City at Toledo, it's going out and back to Moonshine Park. What's this section like? The Elk City bit was one of my favorite parts before.

We changed the route on 2009 to give the 70 mile riders most of the same ride that only the full century riders used to get.

Now you get to go to Siletz, and then follow the river out to the coast at Kernville, then ride back down the coast with (hopefully) a nice tailwind for about 17 miles.

It's as nice or nicer out along the Siletz to the coast and down the coast, and you don't have to do that out & back, get to see all new country for the whole ride, and of course the ride down the coast with a number of spectacular views.

You know, I may just have to let myself off the hook with the 70 mile ride, since it still gets me on the Otter Crest loop. A couple of weeks of family vacation in July have left my preparation behind where I would have liked. It's nice to have options! :thumb:

This was a great ride. When I did it in 2008, I didn't appreciate how beautiful the section between Siletz and Kernville was...probably because I was struggling so much just to keep myself in motion. This year I was much better prepared and loved that part of the ride.

BTW, I did the 70 mile route and according to the altimeter on my Cateye Adventure, which records every last one of those little rolling hills, the elevation gain was 3000 feet (compared to the 1500' advertised and the 2129' reported by MapMyRide). None of the climbs were big and only the short ascent outside Toledo was really steep, but those little rollers really add up.

I hope I can make it back again next year. Thanks to everyone who made this a great experience!
