This year, my schedule has been a bit chaotic to say the least. The next time I can take more than a few days off will likely be late January. I'm considering options for a two-week tour at that time, but with the following parameters.

1. I'm not interested in a cold-weather ride, nor am I interested in two weeks of nearly constant rain.

2. I'm most interested in getting somewhere with reasonably priced airfare.

What do you recommend?

How about San Diego to Seattle? Depending on where you live in BC, you could drive to Seattle and then fly to San Diego. You would only need to purchase air fare in one direction.

Of course, you'll probably get some rain, but not every day, and you'll get some cool weather, but nothing I'd call cold. If the distance is too much, then start a little further north or end a little further south (maybe LA to Portland).

With reasonable airfare and reliably good January weather in mind: Hawaii, Yucatan, Baja California, or Costa Rica.

Within the USA, I've done reasonable winter rides from San Diego eastwards, through Florida and in south Texas.

If I could go further, then I'd start looking at the southern hemisphere. Australia (including Tasmania), New Zealand and South America would be tops on my list.

You only need to consider one place: Texas

How about Cuba?

Anywhere in the SW USA would be good,if you like deserts.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I've cycled in Cuba and Costa Rica in the past. Either of those or other places in Latin America would be great — if I score a deal on airfare. (If I had not spent a couple of weeks in the Yukon and Northwest Territories this summer, I wouldn't be looking to the same degree at a low-budget trip.)

Another option could be a loop from Las Vegas to Los Angeles and San Diego. Flying in and out of Los Angeles or Las Vegas is quite reasonably priced.

Air New Zealand flys direct from Vancouver, BC to Auckland, North Island, NZ. Reasonable ticket price if you look for deals and book along way in advance.
The South Island is more a cycle tour friendly and it will be summer.
I did a tour and the east of South Island in two weeks is feasible.

The weather in Southeast Asia in late February is still nice.

A couple of winters ago I toured in figure of eights around the desert areas of southern California january-march - Anzo-Borrego, Death Valley, Joshua Tree. The days were warm, even hot and beautiful, but the nights could get just below freezing in the high desert, so a good sleeping bag is a must.

I've been planning on going back and doing a two week tour. It's all mapped out on google maps, flying in and out of LAX, I can send the link if you drop me a PM... :)

This winter same period I'll be riding round New Zealands southern island and Thailand/Laos.
The stopover on the way didn't cost extra.
