Classic and Vintage Bicycles: What's it Worth? Appraisals and Inquiries - Specialized Expedition

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hello, I am considering selling a few bikes, including this mid-80s Specialized Expedition. Bike is in excellent condition and rides like a dream. Has Dura Ace and Deore XT drivetrain. Trying to figure out approximate value.
Thanks in advance!

I'll play.
$750?
The ones with stock equipment sell around $600 from what I remember.

It is a priceless touring bike. Sure, you can buy a new one. Yet the VM, Venerable Monster, is one of the best designed touring bikes of all time.
Thanks for the previous help in finding a shop (Cosmic Cycles in Flagstaff, AZ) with a bottom bracket tool for this machine. Still running smooth.

It just keeps going and going, steady, reliable, durable, lilting.

The first big tour of the VM was in 1985 --->

Thanks for the posts. It is a brilliant bike, no doubt. Will hold onto it if possible.

Weren't those a rebranded Miyata 1000? I've heard that from a friend and was wondering.

I have both a Miyata 1000 and a Specialized Expedition and they are quite different in nearly every detail. In fact, it is hard to find anything similar other than fine build quality and different but excellent design detail.
My understanding is Miyata built the Expedition to Specialized spec and design, but it is clearly a different bike than the One Thousand or later 1000LT.
Local sale or ebay? XL size will make a local sale at a decent price difficult. Ebay? $600+
Hey Bill. I don't think I'm going to sell this one. Too hard to replace; plus, I love it.

Good decision! Nice bike, pretty hard to find, and in a hard to find size too.
