Touring - Where to get white gas for my camping stove (MSR Whisperlite Internationale)

So I've got the above stove, which is a multifuel model - it burns just about anything. I've only used it with regular car gasoline so far, which is great because it's uber cheap - I can get like a week's worth of solo cooking for under a dollar. However I'm told white gas burns a lot cleaner, which is attractive, given the amount of soot generated by burning gasoline. So I'm just wondering where I can fill up my fuel bottle with white gas. Gas stations?

Sporting goods and camping stores will have it (REI, Dicks, Cabelas). So will Wal-Mart, Fred Meyer, K-Mart and the like. Home Depot and Lowe's probably has it as well. It's usually sold in 1 gallon metal gas cans in the camping section of stores. Coleman brand is pretty common.

Any sporting goods or hardware store, some big grocery chains, small markets, REI, big drug store chains, but I doubt many gas stations will have it. Look around as you shop, you'll be surprised who carries this in the sporting goods, camping or automotive sections.

I have been successful in getting a small amount of white gas just by asking around when I see other folks camping or with trailers at rest stops. You can even offer a couple of bucks for it, but you'd probably get a small amount for free. At one state park a park attendant brought out a gallon of white gas from a shed and let us fill our canister.

Coleman and others sell it in quart size. If you buy the gallon size think about buying a second fuel bottle to fit your stove to carry on long trips.

HelMart carries quart quantities in a number of stores.

Eastern Mountain Sports on Chestnut or Walnut St. on campus usually carries 32 oz. cans of MSR "Superfuel," which is what MSR is calling the sutff these days. It may also carry "Camp Fuel," which is the same thing (and cheaper), in 32 oz. cans.

Last time I was there, I. Godlberg's on 13th & Chestnut had the 32 oz. Superfuel. I have also seem the Camp Fuel brand there.

Couple of items of note...if you buy a gallon make sure you put a date on the can. For some reason some of my stoves don't like old (3+ years) fuel, lanterns don't seem to mind. I have seen quarts, half gallons and gallons. Maybe find someone and split a can with them, ask around the campgrounds if you see someone with a liquid fuel stove, however I see fewer and fewer of those as the years go by. Most people seem to have gone with LP.

I did one 3 week tour back in the 1970's and never had to pay for any fuel, people were more than willing to fill my bottle for me, and quite often would invite me to dinner.

Worse come to worse,if your stove is brass(Svea 123),you can run Naptha from the paint stores.White gas,coleman fuel and Naptha are the same thing.Coleman fuel and white gas have some additives so it doesn't corrode steel.

Nope, the unleaded , petrol is fine ,, just clean the jet ,
and pull out the cable in the fuel tube occasionally.

or you can put the Kero Jet in there , and burn it..
at startup, then the unleaded would seem clean burning ..
