General Cycling Discussion - Tektro Vs. Ultegra?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I'm looking for a new brake setup on my 2003 Allez Elite which currently has Tektro calipers that came stock on the bike. I changed the pads to Ultegras and didn't notice any difference in braking performance. Will going to Ultegra calipers result in better performing brakes? I'm wondering if there is a leverage or design advantage when going with the Ultegra calipers, or is is just a weight weenie thing? Thanks for your input.

It is a weight weenie thing. Try using Kool Stop pads.

No.
Your big might be a couple grams lighter with Ultegra, and your walet will be as wel, and people may say, "Ooh, nice Ultegra!", but your bike wil still stop the same.

I personally roll with (or actually stop with) SwissStop pads.

Incidentally, I believe that the arms in the Ultegra brake calipers are more stout than the arms in the Tektro brakes so they may perform better in hard braking situations. FWIW
