Southeast - Moving to Conway, Arkansas

So I'm moving to Conway, Arkansas (in case you for some reason didn't read that in the title....), and know nigh-on nothing about the city. Anybody from the area at all? Is it a bike-friendly kinda town? Is it highly bike-hostile?

I dunno, anything I should be on the look-out for in my move?

I just dropped the Baby Boy off there for his education. He does not ride but I saw a couple of bikes out early this morning. There are bike lanes in part of the city.

Conway is very bike friendly. Almost all roads are marked with share the road signs or bike lanes. The Ride is a good bike shop with anything you could need. Not sure how familiar you are with central AR, but the River Trail is about 20 minutes from Conway and includes the Big Dam Bridge and the new Two Rivers Bridge. All together about 20 miles of trail and the ability to ride much further out into the county.

Do you ride roads or mountain trails? I do not ride mountain bikes, but I am aware of several trails near Conway. Road riding is no problem, and as mentioned above, you are only a few minutes from the North Little Rock and Little Rock trails. You can find some good group rides formed at the Ride, the bike shop in Conway. Also, you might want to join the Arkansas Bicycle Club if you enjoy group riding. You can find flat rides and very hilly rides.

I went to college in Conway. BA is right, most of Conway is flat but there are hilly areas for those who like that sort of thing. And there are lots of smaller, older highways for scenic rural rides. It's a growing town with lots of new asphalt and plenty of places to ride. Conway is also a college town (3 colleges) and fairly progressive. Because of it's moderate size, relatively level terrain, and general atmosphere, I'd consider it the most bike-friendly town in Arkansas for someone who wanted to use a bike as his primary means of transportation.

I used to ride singletrack, but I started getting frustrated with having to drive to a riding point (kinda defeats the purpose, yeah?) so i've decided to make the switch to road riding. Actually, the Hemingway quote on the description for the road bike section of these forums helped me make that decision, too... Anyway, that means that I've got some shopping to do, and some saving up (or craigslist trolling) to do before I can actually go on a ride. Story here: sold my old, and honestly cheap bike before my move; a good idea, but doubting it now that i'm stationary: nothing worse than having everything I need to ride but the bike!

But I did check out The Ride; really liked the shop (and the rest of Conway, for that matter!)

I went to Hendrix College in the very early '80s and graduated from UCA in '97 and commuted daily on my bike with zero issues. I'm sure it's changed loads since then but I loved it.
