I'm leaning towards these two bikes as a replacement for my old MTB. I don't ride the woods anymore unless I'm on my KTM, but something less aggressive than my Trek 5500 would be appreciated from time to time. Anyone ride one of these?

thanks

I ride an 09 Tricross Sport. It's quite a versatile bike, it's my commuter, tourer, century bike, fire road bike, MUPer, and everything in between. It's a very popular choice in the commuting forum if you want to ask over there.

I have an '06 Fuji Cross Comp that I use for my commuter. The ride is very comfortable for me and I sometimes strip off the rack and bags and take it out on regular road rides. It has become my general purpose bike for almost any riding except serious road rides. I did race cyclocross two years ago and do off road riding on it but now It is mostly just roads and MUPs.

I test rode a Tricross back when they first came out and absolutely hated it. There was something going on with the fork. When you braked hard the fork chattered badly. Did some internet research and found that it was a design flaw of the fork and that it was a widespread problem.

I liked the rest of the bike, just hated the fork. If they fixed the fork (they may have - haven't ridden one since then), I'd recommend it.

The front brake chatter was fixed by either running V brakes or mounting the cable hanger for the canti's on the fork crown instead of the steerer tube. I opted for the redesigned cable hanger on my Tricross SS. I ride it as a trail bike with 45mm knobbies and 39/20 gearing. I lke it a lot, it is comfortable and has handle many ungraceful landings from my miscalculations. (I have landed some jumps to flat that were a little higher than expected, slamming my chest into the stem. I woudn't recomend it).

Never had that issue on my 07 Tricross Comp. Bought it used, and have ridden it like I stole it. Most of my miles are commuting (27 mile round trip). Absolutely love this bike.

I have the Fuji Cross 3.0. Love the frame. The Cross Comp to me felt more like a long and low racing bike. The 3.0 has a slightly slanted top tube, and much bigger head tube, making it more upright. I ended up fitting with the handlebars about level with the seat... rare for me, as I have long legs and a shorter than normal reach.

I've read quite a few complaints of the forks chattering on the TriCross, but didn't experience it on my test rides. I ended up buying a new Fuji Newest 1.0 for about 50% of what the TriCross costs.

Tried 'em both and went for the Focus Mares AX2 instead. Felt right and a heck of a value.
